Computer age had begun since the time man is able to invent computers. Computers are evolving so fast that you might miss it in just a blink of an eye. Science and technology are progressing so fast towards advancements.

As computer technology is advancing, the technology in terms of communicating also advances too along side with the progress of technology. During the old years, sending and receiving messages moves in a very slow pace.

The receiver might receive the message so long after an event that is in the message is over. This way of sending and receiving messages is called as the snail mail. We all know that a snail is the world's slowest moving animal.

This term is created when the e-mail or the electronic mail took its place in the world of sending and receiving messages. The electronic mail and the snail mail have the same function in terms of sending and receiving messages. They only differ in terms of speed. In the old-fashioned snail mail, you would have to use a blank sheet of paper and a pen.

The writing of the letter or the message is manual. You must have a good penmanship so that the person who will be reading your message will surely understand your message because it is written in an organized manner.

In the electronic mail or e-mail, all you have to do is to establish an Internet connection and login to a server. Here you can type your message. There is nothing wrong in committing mistakes in typing because you can just erase the mistyped letters.

It will be erased without leaving a trace unlike in the old-fashioned snail mail. After typing the message, you can now send it to a recipient of your choice in just a click of a button. Your message will now be sent to the recipient in just under a minute.

There it will be waiting and stored until the recipient opened the message.
Using the electronic mail, there is no need to seal the envelope or paste a stamp unlike in using the snail mail method. Some electronic mail offers the feature of an instant messaging.

In instant messaging or the IM, you can chat with your friends directly on time provided you both are online at the same time. Using the instant messaging is not only in a two-way process. Three or more persons can chat together in a conference.

The emergence of the electronic mail is truly a breakthrough in the world of technology. The electronic mail is truly a wonderful work of art in the history of mankind.
